Marykate O’Neil is back with her third solo release, mk-ULTRA (EP, due out October 28, 2008), and the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter has lost nothing of the perfect blend of sweetness and cynicism that marked 2006’s critically acclaimed 1-800-Bankrupt. Hailed by Filter as a “rare instance where everything simply clicks" and Rolling Stone as “deeply authentic and original,” Bankrupt cemented the standard of songwriting talent O’Neil is known for and delivers again with mk-ULTRA. click here to pre-order yours!

Supergirl." the BLOGS have spoken: this just in from the G-man!
Marykate O'Neil kicks ass!
Current mood: Inspired and moved! Tonight, Seth, the Mrs. and I went to see not just a fellow musician, but an ARTISTE, Marykate O'Neil. Her songs and performance showed so much real emotion! Awesome awesome! And her stage banter is sublimely funny - think Mike Meyers meets Andy Kaufman. Highly recommended for fans of smart lyrics and hip musical sensibilities, as well as for those who've recently experienced life shaking breakdowns. : ) Buy her CD. She deserves the money. Best of luck MK in France! For your stage banter, remember that they like it when you insult their culture.... and ...we here at 71 recordings are proud to report we have no hipster cred: "Marykate has made an exceptionally fine record that's well outside flavor-of-the-month parameters and released it on a label that has no particular hipster cachet. I'd really hate to see this one fall through the cracks. Maybe it'll be featured in "Paste" or something..." |

Marykate
O'Neil
Marykate's first record and already a classic! Click above to buy one. And why stop at one? more more more...how do you like it? how do you like it?
read what people write:
If Elvis Costello and Astrud Gilberto swapped spit in another time dimension,
singer/guitarist Marykate O'Neil would be the musical spawn of their eros.
A doll-faced talent with enough 60's chutzpah and '90's cynicism to spark her own songwriting
genre -- call it 'beat-pop'. O'Neil's self-titled debut is a spotlessly constructed
concoction of acoustic ballads, retro organ stompers and smartly choreographed electric
guitar bop. -- CMJ -Picked as an Essential Listen
Marykate O'Neil's debut release has the flavor of an album recorded
amidst cups of coffee and giddy laughter. It has both a freshness and
simplicity, which are enchanting. Influenced by the fuzzy side of 60s pop,
it is "beat-pop" --- and the entire album has the good sense of not having
any down time. Marykate's skillful melodies and delicate voice are veritable
pearls of sweetness. Deeply authentic and original, Marykate has crafted
a style with humor and irony intact anchored in daily life. 4 stars - Rolling Stone
Marykate O’Neil is poised to steal the show. LA Times
A debut release as a singer/songwriter can be a harrowing initiation to be sure.
One favor in Marykate O'Neil's court is production by Michael Deming and Jill Sobule.
Despite the big names involved, O'Neil is hands down the star of her own debut.
It's ironic that this 14 song album's recording was split between Nashville, TN
and the newly minted hipster mecca of Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood --
O'Neil's music is the perfect blend of metropolitan indie high society and Music City's
tradition of sanguine, heart-crafted songwriting. -- Rockpile
